Simple Tutorial of Installing Cisco 2960 8-Port Switches

1 Install the Mounting Screws on Top of a Desk or Shelf.
1)  Use the template to align the mounting screw holes and position the screw template on top of the desk or shelf so that the two side-by-side slots face the front of the desk or shelf. This ensures that the power cord faces the rear of the desk or shelf after the switch is installed.
2)  Peel the adhesive strip off the bottom of the screw template, and attach it to the top of the desk or shelf.
3)  Insert three screws in the slots and remove the screw template from the desk or shelf, then place the switch onto the mounting screws, and slide the switch forward until it locks in place
You’d better allow at least 3 inches (7.6 cm) of clearance around the ventilation openings to prevent airflow restriction and overheating; do not stack switches or place switches side-by-side unless they are separated on all sides with at least 3 inches (7.6 cm) of clearance from each other.
2 Mount the Switch on Top of a Desk or Shelf
1)  Power on the switch and connect to a 10/100 or 10/100/1000 port, and run Express Setup. (See the switch getting started guide for instructions if not clear)
Connect to the front-panel ports of Cisco 2960 Switches.
3 Install the Mounting Screws under a Desk or Shelf
Do the same as the first step. For the best support of the switch and cables, make sure that you attach the switch securely to a wall stud or to a firmly attached plywood mounting backboard.
4 Mount the Switch under a Desk or Shelf
Do the same as the step 2. Don’t wall-mount the switch with its front panel facing up or sideways. According to safety regulations, you should wall-mount the switch with its front panel facing down to prevent airflow restriction and to provide easier access to the cables.
5 Installing the Mounting Screws on a Wall
Attach the screw template to the wall and insert the screws in the slots on the screw template tightly. And then place the switch onto the mounting screws, and slide it down until it locks in place.
6 Install the Switch on a Wall
After the switch is mounted on the wall, you should power on the switch. And then do as the step 2.
7 Mount the Switch with a Magnet
Place one side of the magnet against the bottom of the switch and mount the Switch with a Magnet, and then mount the magnet and switch on a metal surface. After the switch is attached to the mounting magnet, do the same as the step 2.
8 Attaching the 19-inch Brackets for Rack-Mounting
Mounting the Switch in a 19-Inch Rack first, and then after the brackets are attached to the switch, insert the switch into the 19-inch rack, and align the bracket in the rack. Use either the 10-32 pan-head screws or the 12-24 pan-slotted screws to secure the switch in the rack.
9 Mount the Switch in a 19-Inch Rack
Attach a 19-inch bracket to one side of the switch. Follow the same steps to attach the second bracket to the opposite side. For the best support of the switch and cables, make sure the switch is attached securely to wall studs or to a firmly attached plywood mounting backboard. Do not wall-mount the switch with its front panel facing up or sideways according to safety regulations but wall-mount the switch with its front panel facing down to prevent airflow restriction and to provide easier access to the cables.
10 Mount the Switch on a Wall
After the switch is mounted on the wall, again power on the switch, connect to a 10/100 or 10/100/1000 port, and run Express Setup. And then connect to the front-panel ports.

Key Benefits of Cisco 3750:
There are many benefits of Cisco 3750 Switches; we only list here the main and manifest ones:
1. Ease of Use: "Plug-and-Play" Configuration
A working stack is self-managing and self-configuring. When switches are added or removed, the master switch automatically loads the Cisco IOS Software revision running on the stack to the new switch, loads the global configuration parameters, and updates all the routing tables to reflect changes. Upgrades are applied universally and simultaneously to all members of the stack.
The Cisco 3750 Series stacks up to nine switches as a single logical unit for a total of 468 Ethernet or PoE 10/100 ports, or 468 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports or PoE 10/100/1000 ports, or nine 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
2. Mix-and-Match Switch Types: Pay as You Expand Your Network
Stacks can be created with any combination of Cisco Catalyst 3750 and Cisco Catalyst 3750-E series. Customers who need a mixture of 10/100 and 10/100/1000 ports, PoE, and wiring-closet aggregation capability can incrementally develop the access environment, paying only for what they need.
3. Availability: Uninterrupted Performance at Layer 2 and Layer 3
The Cisco Catalyst 3750 switch increases availability for stackable switches. Each switch can operate as both a master controller and a forwarding processor.
4. Smart Multicast: A New Level of Efficiency for Converged Networks
With Cisco Stack Wise technology, the Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series offers greater efficiency for multicast applications such as video. Each data packet is put onto the backplane only once, which provides more effective support for more data streams.
Layer 3 MPLS VPN on the Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series
5. Superior Quality of Service across the Stack and at Wire Speed
The Cisco 3750 Series offers Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet speed with intelligent services that keep everything flowing smoothly, even at 10 times the normal network speed. Mechanisms for marking, classification, and scheduling deliver best-in-class performance for data, voice, and video traffic, all at wire speed.
6. Network Security: Granular Control for the Access Environment
The Cisco 3750 supports a comprehensive set of security features for connectivity and access control, including ACLs, authentication, port-level security, and identity-based network services with 802.1x and extensions. This set of comprehensive features not only helps prevent external attacks, but also defends the network against "man-in-the-middle" attacks, a primary concern in today's business environment.
7. Single IP Management: Many Switches, One Address
Each Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series stack is managed as a single object and has a single IP address. Single IP management is supported for activities such as fault detection, VLAN creation and modification, network security, and QoS controls.
8. The Catalyst 3750 Series support for High-Demand Applications, IPv6 routing in hardware for maximum performance and graceful Addition of IP Communications. Besides, it has 10 Gigabit Ethernet Support-Increased Uplink Bandwidth for Gigabit Ethernet Deployments.

Simple guide of Cisco 3750 Configurations
All switch models can be configured with four optional network modules. The PoE+ and non-PoE switch models are available with either the LAN Base or IP Base feature set. IP Services feature set is available as an upgrade option at the time of ordering or through a license at a later time. The GE SFP switch models are available with either IP Base or IP Services feature set. Now, let’s share the details.
1.  Connect the switch's power supply to a grounded AC outlet till the switch's indicator lights flash which performs a self-test.
2.  Turn on the "Mode" button to turn green, and then release it.
3.  Connect an Ethernet cable to any of the switch's Ethernet ports to the computer. Ensure that the lights on the switch and your computer's Ethernet card are green and wait 30 seconds.
4.  Open a web browser on your PC and enter "10.0.0.1" into the address bar. This brings you to the Cisco 3750's Express Setup page.
5.  Enter "10.0.0.1" into the "IP Address" field of the "Basic Settings" tab. If you are connecting the switch to the Internet through a modem or router, enter the modem or router's IP address in the "Default Gateway" field. The modem or router's IP address should be in its manual.
6.  Following the instructions to set and confirm the password which will be required to access the switch's configuration page in the future.
7. Enter a name for the switch and fill in the date, time and time zone information under "Optional Settings" if you wish. Basic configuration is now complete.
8. If you want to alter some advanced settings as well, click on the "Advanced Settings" tab. And then click "Enable" beside "Telnet Access" if you plan to use Telnet to manage the switch using a command-line interface. Enter and confirm a password into the "Telnet Password".
9. Click "Enable" beside "SNMP" to enable Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). This option should only be enabled if you plan to manage the switch using Cisco Works 2000 or another SNMP system. You must enter the "Read Community," "Write Community," "System Contact" and "System Location" information if you enable SNMP.
10. Check the "Enable IPv6" box if you wish to enable it. IPv6 features better support for mobile devices like cell phones and PDAs, simplified address auto-configuration, and improved data encryption, compared to IPv4. Enabling IPv6 will restart your switch when exiting Express Setup.
11. Remember to click "Submit" to save and apply your settings. Your Cisco 3750 should now be configured and ready to install in your service network.
